From the Sky to the Bench
The Story Behind Design by Athena
Before I ever carved a ring or cast silver into molten form, I flew helicopters across Canada—supporting wildfire crews, remote hunting camps, and northern communities. The work demanded precision, instinct, and absolute presence—skills I carry with me today at the jeweller’s bench.
But even before that, I studied mythology and prehistory at York University. I was drawn to the stories etched into stone, passed down through time, and embedded in artefacts. I didn’t know it then, but I was already seeking something lasting—something sacred.
When I discovered metal smithing, something clicked. I taught myself the slow craft of wax carving, soldering, casting, and finishing. The same hands that once gripped a flight stick now shape sterling silver, 18k gold, and platinum into sculptural forms. Each piece I make is inspired by the ocean, leaves, myth, and memory—and designed to carry presence.
These days, I spend most of my time in my Danforth studio, working on custom talismans, heirloom rings, and one-of-a-kind pieces that speak to the women who wear them. Jewelry that feels powerful, elegant, and deeply personal.
If you own a piece of mine, know this: it was made with reverence—for story, for strength, and for you.
Warmly,
Mags
