What It Takes to Make One-of-a-Kind: Inside a Custom Jewellery Commission

Custom jewellery isn’t about choosing a different design.

It’s about taking something that already exists — a memory, a relationship, a moment — and giving it form.

Before I touch metal, before I carve wax, before anything becomes physical… it starts there.

With you.

What’s Possible

Every custom piece begins differently.

One ring I created was built from a couple’s shared life — the small, specific things that mattered to them. It became a sculptural platinum ring featuring a bunny, surrounded by soft air-like wisps. Not decorative. Personal. Something only they would understand at first glance.

Another project became a pair of ginkgo leaf necklaces — one leaf for her, one for her husband, with two birthstones placed intentionally to represent their children. Every stone was positioned with care, direction, and meaning. What began as an idea became two necklaces and an anklet — a complete, wearable story.

In another commission, the starting point was instinct. A selection of stones — lapis, moonstone, fire opal. From there, we spoke about trees, leaves, personality, presence. The result became two bracelets, composed from that conversation and translated into form.

This is what custom work allows.

Not variation. Not personalisation.

Creation.

The Process

Every project begins with a conversation.

From there, I interpret and translate — through sketching, proportion, and structure — into something that can exist in metal.

Depending on the design, I work through hand-carved wax, fabricated metal, or CAD development. Each method serves the piece differently. There is no single approach — only the right one.

Casting follows. Then refinement.

Filing. Shaping. Setting. Polishing.

This is where the piece becomes what it was meant to be.

Some parts of the process are done entirely by hand in my studio. For more complex work, I collaborate with trusted specialists while maintaining full control over design and outcome.

What It Really Takes

Custom jewellery is not fast.
And it’s not passive.
Every decising matters — scale, weight, stone placement, how it sits on the body, how it feels to wear.

There are moments of adjustment. Refinement. Reconsideration.
It requires trust — on both sides.
But when it comes together, the result is something that cannot be replicated.
Not because it’s exclusive.
Because it’s specific.

How to Begin

Some people come with an idea they’ve carried for years.
Others arrive with something simple — a stone, a feeling, a direction.
Both are enough.
If you’ve been thinking about a piece — whether clearly or not — we can begin there.
